12 principles of a winning resume

Each applicant seeks to ensure that his resume falls into the hands of a recruitment manager among a huge variety of others. How to create a resume that will attract attention, but at the same time will not be too embellished?

A resume that will help you get your dream job should include:

1. Specific figures
Use statistics to make the impression you need. For example, the phrase “worked with many clients” is better replaced by the phrase “worked with 8 clients per day on a cyclic schedule.”

2. Simplicity and concreteness
There is no need to overload the personnel officer with excessive attention to details and use jargon, and the structure of the resume should not be too complicated. Instead, focus on truly relevant and up-to-date information. Achievements are undoubtedly an important part of the resume, but try to limit yourself to 3-5 achievements for each position held earlier. You must choose the most significant of them, and make sure that they exactly match the vacancy that you are applying for.

3. Personal qualities
Let your future employer clearly imagine what role you will play in his business by including a detailed description of your personal qualities in your resume. To emphasize your versatility, indicate traits such as initiative, teamwork, sociability, and creativity.

4. Volume
Paradoxically, a long resume is often more effective than a short one, because in this way the employer will receive information about your achievements and will have a more complete picture of your personality.

5. Keywords
Regardless of who views your resume - whether it’s a recruiter directly or whether it is processed by an automated system for staff recruitment, it’s worthwhile to include certain keywords in the resume that indicate your knowledge and experience in this industry. Identify your core competencies that match the requirements of the vacancy and indicate them in the resume.

6. Personal brand
At the beginning of the resume, describe yourself briefly in one paragraph, thereby demonstrating a personal brand. For example, if you are an experienced marketing specialist, you can write: a marketing specialist in the retail industry of luxury goods, with experience in applying advanced strategies to promote products and services, ensuring a double increase in profit and omnichannel interaction with consumers.

7. Different resume options
Pay attention to specific details - indicate specific skills appropriate for the position in which you are interested, instead of using the same resume template for different employers.

8. References
Given the fact that resumes are provided, as a rule, in electronic form, include links to it that immediately allow you to access one or another material. Links are especially relevant if you have creative work, such as published articles or an online portfolio.

9. Appeal to the target audience
Determine the needs of the company in which you would like to work, having previously studied its history and values. For example, if you know that the main goal of the company is to provide quality customer service, focus on your skills and experience in this area. But do not go too far, of course.

10. Adjustment
Unfortunately, spelling mistakes attract attention, which obviously will not do you any good. Give your resume to a friend or relative to avoid last-minute mistakes.

11. Ease of perception
If your resume is easy to read for a recruiter, it will automatically increase your chances of getting the desired position. Before sending a resume, check on different devices whether its format is supported.

12. Online template
Today, many websites are introducing online tools for creating and formatting resumes, ranging from Google Docs to Navigator (note Translator J). This option to create a resume will greatly facilitate and accelerate the work on it.
